Shotguns
How can you shoot a shotgun at a target 3/4 of the way across the grand canyon and hit the target in the head and leave a bullet hole like a sniper rifle.

shareA standard 12ga shotgun and typical slug will only have an effective range of about 50 to 75 yards.
A rifled barrel shotgun can shoot a slug around 100 to 150 yards.
This is significantly less distance than the effective range of a good target/sniper rifle.
Budget I think.
The guns go "wheee" occasionally so are apparently supposed to be future electric/ray guns not shotguns.
They do load them sometimes, so... I guess. A bit vague, but shotguns do not charge, and do not whine when charging, so something else was supposed to be going on.
I know!!! The guns made charging sound effects like they were powering up, but they were just plain ol' shotguns. I think the sound effects crew got really out of hand on this flick.

Perhaps they were supposed to be some futuristic high-speed projectile shell that still works in a standard 12ga shotgun.
