Yes, yes, yes!
It was as if they switched directors and authors in the middle of it! I haven't done any research but if I had to guess I would say some producers didn't like the original plot of the second half (whatever that is) and demanded to have shootouts, damsels in distress and all the other tropes.
- Why introduce Robert Bold to the secret only to take him out in the desert 2 scenes later? Why do they even bother feeding him with anti-radiation pills?
- Why kidnap his wife and baby? What for!?
- Conveniently, all the executives do the dirty work and stupid shootout in the desert themselves!?
- A scorpion/dog without hands and such is their new, ultimate design of super-robots? How is that thing going to build the next genereation of robots!?
- They can build these and repair cars that have been degraded to the bone but cannot reconfigure that lift in a way that it doesn't need to be operated by a robot?
- Stupid shootout
- robots making random animal noises
And generally a plot going nowhere.
