I Robot
this looks like a remake of I Robot
shareNot only is this one closer to the book, but it also looks amazing. I Robot looked like a cheap ass action movie when I first saw the trailer.
shareI'm not sure what book you're referring to but it certainly isn't one by Isaac Asimov! This movie is absolutely nothing like anything Asimov every wrote. Not even remotely close. The robots have two protocols and one of them is basically the First Law in Asimov's universe but aside from that there is not one single other thing. A terrible movie - completely unoriginal and full of gaping plot holes - nowhere near as good as 'I Robot', which had some minor differences between it and the Asimov universe but a plot that was in synch with Asimov's robot stories all the way...

fillshertease, I love Asimov. My avatar is a picture of him. But his ideas on robots and AI while absolutely impressive for their time, they don't really hold up to our modern world. Films like Automata, at least in my opinion, they take a much more realistic look at the state of robots and AI today and where it might be in a short number of years. In Asimovs day, robots that are near indistinguishable from humans were right around the corner. The year 2000 was the far future where we'd be flying around in cars, living on the moon and have robot friends. It just didn't play out that way and no one really understood just how massively complicated a task it was to create robots that can move like us and AI that can think well enough that we'd accept them as being alive.

shareYes, I found it reminiscent of a combination of "I, Robot" and "Blade Runner."
Still, enough original material (& Robert Forster & his Chicago accent) to make me like it on its own. I doubt I'll watch it again, though, I've seen "Blade Runner" innumerable times.
