I Robot
this looks like a remake of I Robot
shareIt looks like a film closer to Asimov's series of books than the Will Smith abomination.
shareHey, I loved "I, Robot!" Artistic license was taken, but other than Shia LaBeoff's pointless role I thought it was entertaining (I think so little of Shia that I don't care that I probably misspelled his name. This looks like it's based on some of the other stories in the series. I think it comes off complementary to I, Robot rather than like a remake, or a competitor in the franchise.
shareI think you'll find that it is spelt "Sh!tty LeBoof"
shareYes I agree - and I've got all my fingers (and toes) crossed. I hated I Robot
shareI liked Asimov's vision of "I, Robot" and feel that the film was almost a story in and of itself. I can like the film so long as I consider it apart from the Asimov universe. But as it is, I agree that it strayed too far in their attempt to sensationalize the story in order to appeal to a broad audience. Though not as poorly done as, say, Stallone's "Judge Dredd" and the mockery it made of the Dredd canon.
shareThere is no Asimov version of I, Robot. It was the title a short story collection was given to it by the publishers against Asimov's wishes. The story I, Robot that everybody keeps citing, and the movie is inspired by, was written by Eando Binder and turned into an episode of the Outer Limits.
There are a handful of bits from Asimov's work scattered in in the movie, but the screenplay was originally called Hardwired, and didn't have anything to do with Asimov.
You should really read up on this. Check out the Wiki on him along with several other references. There is a script for I, Robot that him and Harlan Elison wrote but it was never filmed. Eventually it was ran in serial form in a magazine years later and it was called I, Robot. Also, the movie script was originally called Hardwired and simply incorporated a few elements from Asimov's stories but it was written by Jeff Vintar.
shareVery well said, gone19. It's astonishing that so many people are unaware of the literary source which was the inspiration for that truly insulting, woefully bad Will Smith monstrosity.
In Ellison's own words, "You are not entitled to your opinion. You are entitled to your informed opinion. No one is entitled to be ignorant."
Yet, as some of the previous comments demonstrate, those with a sense of self-entitlement make ignorance their vice.
I Love Asimov's work. I, Robot was absolutely my favorite book. When I saw the trailer of the Movie, i decided i would avoid ever seeing it.
It's Like they took a Monster robot movie, and gave it the title, then mentioned the three laws of robotics ...somewhere...
I am glad to see I wasn't the only one. I am going to watch this tonight. Was a Bit...concerned since I had an idea it would follow along the themes of I, Robot. But having read this thread.... I see I am in for a treat.

Stalllone's Dredd was WAY better than the lifeless POS that was Urban's version. Ron Schnieder f'd up Dredd not Stallone.
Movies Books and TV are ALL different medium and thus use different approaches. Don't like the movie? Well stick your book up your ass cuz I, Robot was very good.
You Suck...now deal with it.
Amen!
shareWhat a beautiful made insight on your opinion
shareI Robot was just simplistic popcorn entertainment with just a nod towards Azimov. This looks far more intelligent.
Here's hoping anyway - I'm sick of big budget Hollywood rubbish for the masses.
Agreed.
shareThe problem with Automata is just that. It looks intelligent, but it's not.
I, Robot is, at the very least, very entertaining to watch.
I wish it had combined intelligence with entertainment.
shareWell, it's not insultingly dumb like Transformers or TMNT.
shareNo those films are truly dreadful - and yet they're sure to make more. There's not a shred of intelligence in either of the franchises.
I did enjoy I Robot - but only as popcorn entertainment - I was disappointed that it didn't have the intelligence of the novels and had too many crowd pleasing set pieces that lacked any real drama.
for me, looks more like a Isaac Asimov "I robot" meets "Do androids dreams of electric sheep" from Philip K. Dick. And honestly i don't think it's a bad thing, we are just talking about, IMHO, two masterpieces of this genre. I just hope this movie lives to the expectations.
Looks better than just a remake of that cheese-fest to me, actually.
You also might want to learn what a "remake" is, also.
