I was with it until spider baby

Why couldn't they have made it a turtle, turtles are nice, and they kept showing turtles all through the movie. What the hay?

It looked more like a cockroach. The 'boss' robot probably was inspired by them as they were in the desert. Note that Cleo plays with one when at the cave.

reply

Because turtles were not tough enough to survive in the radioactive desert.

reply

Yeah but then couldn't it be a lizard or something - roaches make it like a horror alien movie.

reply

Lizards didn't survive either. Roaches are the only signs of life we see there.

reply

Lizards could survive in the fictional story, after all, they didn't die when the dinosaurs got wiped out.

Roachbots aren't as cute and cuddly as lizardbots.

everyone knows that cockroaches are the only thing to survive a nuclear bomb.

reply

Hahaha!! Yeah I guess you're right but I still say turtles and lizards are more cuddly - not to mention puppies!

reply

What is wrong with you? The worst part in the movie is the robots never picking up a gun and shooting. Even knowing how smart and fast learners they are. So it was good that FINALLY the spider robot attacked a human. A turtle moves too slow, could never attack a human.

reply

They were still bound by the first protocol, so they couldn't hurt a human. Since they built the spider baby, it was not bound by the first protocol.

reply

But they were changed, which made them violate other protocols too.

The problem in your thought process is that you equate intelligence with violence.

Maybe intelligence is the realization that any specific individual is not important, but only the survival of the species is.

It is important to note that not every species puts emphasis on the individual as we do and that maybe another form of intelligence would put emphasis on hive mentality.

Not to mention, in the case of robots, what use is the individual if there's a free and constant flow of information between them? The individual becomes superfluous, only the information matters. It doesn't seem to be the case in this movie though, I'm just making the case that the use of violence to defend oneself doesn't necessarily make sense in every possible configuration of intelligent societies/beings.
