Antonio Banderas with Melanie Griffith??

Guess this movie was in pre-production before the marital problems and divorce??..An attempt to do a movie together to save their faltering marriage (which should have ended YEARS ago)??.,;O ;P Maybe the even changed her character from "Mrs. Vaucan/wife" with the Scandinavian girl as they (Banderas-Griffith) got divorced in the middle of production?;O ;/ LOL ;P

That was Melanie Griffith? What????????? I thought it was some no name botoxed grandma. OMG

The only way i recognize Griffith was by her voice, too much plastic surgery really messed her up :-(

reply

Age is what messes us up. Have a heart.

reply

I know but in her case it was plastic surgery...

Age is a common reason for plastic surgery, but it's always a losing battle. Actresses are lucky to find roles after their 30s because we demand young and sexy. Surgery can help extend a career a bit. It's the sad truth.

reply

Talent and skill extend career, i don't care about looks in an actor/actress, it's so shallow.

Look at Meryl Streep, she didn't need surgery...

Oh well :-)

It's good to hear that you don't care about actor's looks. Meryl Streep is the greatest living actor in my opinion. For most female actors, youth is so very highly valued in the profession, and once you're past your prime, you're pretty much out. Men have some similar pressures, but the demands are not nearly as harsh as for women. Most of them get surgery too, so they don't get a complete pass to age gracefully. You can spot their "pixy ears" where their ear lobes get stretched well down their necks.

I always love Melanie Griffith's work and give her kudos for taking this difficult part. It really makes me sad when I see threads ripping actresses who are past their prime, especially because they might come and see what people are writing about them. I hope that they don't do that because so many people are spouting really hateful and demeaning things that they would never say to the actor's face. We need to remember that these are real people doing their best to entertain us.

You're right, I was also glad to see Jessica Lange in The Gambler and she looked great. As least contrary to Melanie i recognize her right away...

There are plenty of older actresses who still look great, even without surgery. The ones that were sexy leading ladies in their prime, are still worthy of roles, just different roles; roles of mothers and grandmothers, there is always a need for older women as well as older men in film... What I don't like is when it's an old fart teamed up with a young babe for a wife, that's so stupid. It happens in real life, but not as much as you see in movies, I guess it gives men a feeling of superiority or something.

Yeah, like Golden Girls. Wait...what?

reply

Exactly like them. They are lucky.

The awesome thing is based on her looks in this film if they ever need a female Joker she's got the part locked.
