Frank's no murderer!

From the flash-backs it seems Frank should not have been convicted for murder. Instead, it looks like involuntary manslaughter when he pushed his girlfriend and accidentally killed her. This would carry a much lighter sentence.

but he would also be convicted for the death of the baby in the upstairs bathroom. At least that's how I took it, that the girl drowned her baby to avoid the responsibility. He then pushes her to the floor after their argument, accidentally killing her ... ending up looking responsible for both.

Somewhere it was mentioned that maybe it was him that accidentally left the baby in the upstairs bathroom, got in the argument, forgot about the baby and THEN realized after seeing the water. The problem with that is that the scene starts with the GIRL coming down the stairs, (fully dressed as though she's about to leave) and meets him at the base of the stairs. I suppose it could have still been a mistake but i didn't take it that way.

Yes, I saw it as the first way as well. I read the book, although it's been like 4 years, so I don't remember what happened; however, I do remember thinking that Frank was not guilty.

In the book it wasn't either of them bathing the baby it was his grandmother, when he is telling Henry & Adele what happened he says he and Mandy were downstairs arguing so his grandma takes the baby up for his bath. Frank point blank asks her if Francis Jnr. (The baby) is his she tells him no, he gets angry pushes her, she hits her head and dies, meanwhile while that's going on grandma has a heart attack in the bathroom and dies the water is still running and Francis Jnr. drowns. He is charged with manslaughter for Mandys death and murder for the baby as the cops don't believe his story of how Francis Jnr died they think grandma walked in on him deliberately drowning the baby (after finding out it wasn't his) and then had her heart attack due to the shock of witnessing the baby's death.

Interesting, thankyou.

Unfortunately flash-backs can't be used as evidence. He was convicted of whatever the jury thought he was guilty of and sentenced according to that.

reply

He did accidentally kill her with nothing but suspicion of infidelity.
