Lie detector test

I don't like that basically they made the mom retake the lie detector test until she failed it. I found that really unacceptable and just insane. The only thing that made them even suspect the family killed them is the compulsive liars claim?? This is insane.

THat was a bit much. That FBI agent was an idiot too. Oh yeah, she passed the first time. She passed the second time as well.

But the THIRD TIME, we asked her what is 10 Pi squared divided into 3 plus the diameter of Jupiter and she FAILED !! Hah! LIar and murder is what she is!

reply

this is why lie detector tests are not admissible evidence in court.

also, no polygrapher would have agree'd to a third test. it is stupid, and will be completely unreliable.
it would make more sense to have gotten the sister to consent to a polygraph.

An interesting documentary with an engaging presentation, but, yeah, I was thinking the same thing. She passes the test twice, they try a third time, and then she reportedly fails "every question" ("EVERY question"!) by a huge margin. That sounds to me as if it defeats the entire purpose of a polygraph, which is intended to measure the difference in stress levels between true and untrue answers. In other words, the mother's overall stress had increased when forced to take the test the third time. Stating that as if it proves she was lying seems to indicate notable bias or incompetence.

I have read elsewhere that she was under the influence of substances the first two times, hence the retakes.

reply

That sounds about right.

reply

That would make sense. Because whe wya lie detectors catch you is because you get nervous, right? So of course if you ask her to do it 3 times, she's gonna be nervous.
