Found footage and haunted house, yes. Paranormal, not really.
*spoilers ahead*
There is a scene where approximately 50 costumed characters are standing in front of the protagonists' camper and then suddenly they're gone. Possible paranormal activity because all of them disappearing so quickly and completely didn't seem possible.
Also, there are characters that follow them throughout their journey, and their ability to travel great distances in such limited time didn't seem normal.
A few of the scare actors were legitimately creepy. Otherwise, most of the scares are of the "jump" scare variety.
Based on my intermediate-to-advanced level of watching found footage films, there are better and more effective ones to be found in the genre. If you're looking for legitimate scares or just better quality, I'd recommend:
8.0/10:
The Blair Witch Project
7.0:
Paranormal Activity
Cloverfield
Trollhunter
Chronicle
The Den
End of Watch
Creep
6.0:
The Last Exorcism
Paranormal Activity 2
Paranormal Activity 3
V/H/S
V/H/S 2
Many of these are available through Netflix streaming.
