Has anyone else wondered....

... if Betty might be gay and is interested in Kate?

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that at all, just that I've noticed how she looks at Kate, especially how she looked at Kate's photos at the end of Ep. 2. Also in Ep. 4 when they were discussing Betty getting a house of her own and having Kate live with her.

If its true, it'll be interesting to see how they deal with the issue if they take it any further than just innuendo, especially given the attitudes towards homosexuality at the time the show is set in.

oh i think that it's less than subtle that Betty is gay and that she is strongly attracted to Kate.

From the staring at Kate's pictures, to building up the picture of a future of them rooming together, to her anguish at portraying a life (family) that she will never have...

With only 2 episodes remaining i don't know how they could deal with this other than leave it as showing the angst a gay woman unable to come out in those times would have experienced.

A pass at naive cloistered Kate would either be rejected by Kate leaving little screen time to deal with that fallout, or would be accepted by Kate having her suddenly turn out to not only also be gay but accepting of her own new found feelings.

But then, I'm not a screenwriter so let's see how the pros write their way through this.

If you check out Betty's biography on the official "Bomb Girls" website, they have this interesting tidbit written:

BETTY McRAE (28) is a recent arrival from rural Saskatchewan who moved to Toronto for work. An early arrival to Victory Munitions, Betty quickly rose through the ranks to be a well-regarded worker who doubles as Blue Shift’s on-floor trainer of the new workers. She fled her troubling past to live and work in a more “female” milieu, with fewer of the men she mistrusts. Yet she struggles to connect within this new sisterhood. Among her new trainees, she finds Gladys frustratingly naïve, but in time discovers a grudging respect for her. Her hard attitude doesn’t apply to Kate. Kate inspires her to be a kinder, better person, to show the patience and understanding she lacks with others. Betty doesn’t have the words to explain it, but we know... it’s love.

I thought that was fairly obvious from the first episode, lol.

I definitely saw it coming with Betty, but not with Kate, which kind of broke my heart. I knew whenever Betty acted on it, it wouldn't end well. I hope something good happens next season with them. The finale was crushing.

It would be pretty tough back then seeing as being gay was the love that dared not speak its name.
