Guests of Honour (Jan 23 2013)

Most of us can only imagine what it was like to live through WWII, especially if you had German ancestry. I thought this episode was particularly good to convey what it was like. (Didn't know we had blackouts in Canada.) Loved the storyline of the bravado of the young son, but with the last shot of him looking out the window so clearly thinking WTF. All the acting is good, but Meg Tilley and Peter Outerbridge are outstanding. I live in the same town as Meg; hope I see her on the street to say how much I love her! And Jane Eastwood... she is our Maggie Smith. (Sorry Jane, I know you are not as ancient as Maggie.)

I agree with you there. I also love Meg Tilly and Peter Outerbridge as the Corbett couple. All the actors on the show are doing fantastic work, and Brett Dier as Gene Corbett was just brilliant. Really great work through and through.

The only thing where they messed up was casting Kerr Hewitt as the escaped Nazi. As a German, I must say that his German was terrible, and it was very hard to understand, even to me as a native. In fact, Ali Liebert was easier to understand than him. I have to admit that it made it impossible for me to take the Nazi storyline seriously, because it's just not possible to sustain the illusion when the guy they try to sell you as a native German so clearly isn't...
