marred by needless melodrama

this is a great show but the melodrama is hard to watch. It's worse than Melrose Place. I just want to tell the creators that this show would be perfectly interesting with ordinary characters.

I really hope they tone down the melodrama for season 2, Its getting embarrassing to watch. The premise of this show is already interesting. There is no need to pad it with melodrama.

I'd like to see ordinary women dealing with the circumstances of wartime. Unwanted pregnancy, loss of a husband and workplace accidents are quite plausible in this setting. however...

...abusive psychotic religious maniac father returning to abuse his daughter and then gets pushed over a railing to his death? utterly ludicrous.

Do you really think these things didn't go on in the 40's or 30's or many years before. They are not an invention of our times. And I do believe they are important to the plot line as it goes along.

reply

Yeah, like people would line up to watch ordinary people go through their ordinary, uneventful, drama-free lives, 45 minutes at a time...

Sorry for the snark, but I think you need to consider this is prime-time television. Melodrama is part of the recipe to success, and I personally don't think Bomb Girls was overdoing it. I mean, yes, I actually agree that the Vernon thing was probably over-the-top, but overall, I'd like to think Bomb Girls has a pretty good mixture of making things interesting to watch, all the while giving us glimpses into the characters' every day lives.

Maybe it's just bad acting.

Coupled with really, really bad writing.

All of the above, really.

I totally agree. I really want to like this show but I stopped watching soap operas for this reason. It is just over the top with melodrama for sure. You can have a great show without the unnecessary drama. Maybe this is because the creators figure that because it's a historical based drama they have to go for the lowest common denominator. Unforuntately, this is the tone of the show and will not change. The only reason I still watch is because I'm a Meg Tilly fan and despite the baby from an affair storyline, I'm curious to see what happens to her character, though at this point I bet I can guess what happens. It's been done before in other shows.

This isn't the worse show out there and I do love my historical dramas, so I'll see how it goes with this show.

Kiss my grits!

reply

Its simple.

You dont like it dont watch it.

There are people who like it

reply

Don't cry. Some people enjoy discussing media they like or don't like. You can't stop them.

reply

I so agree with everything you said. Meg tilly is a beautiful woman but she and Marco looked really odd together and her acting wooden. Show could have been better.

reply

She is SO wooden! Jodi Balfour is laughably terrible also...but in my opinion, they all stink. It's almost like they are all inexperienced newbies acting in community theater.

reply

I agree. I love the show, which I'm watching on Netflix, but mid Season 2 the characters are getting a bit too extreme. Such black and white, all-good or all-bad people are unreal, and that's melodrama.
