Why Bomb Girls Instead of Shell Girls?

Hey folks,

I am now watching the series for the second time, and unless something went clearly over my head, the girls are producing artillery shells, not bombs. Obviously I enjoy the show very much, but do not recall seeing a single bomb being produced, and I still wonder about the title citing bombs instead of shells.

Bomb Girls sounds cooler. Shell Girls does not.
