Annoying light effect

I remember watching this show (the pilot, at least) when it was on American TV years ago, but either it just disappeared, or I decided I wasn't interested--can't remember which. ANyway, I thought the show had been cancelled. Interesting that it's been alive and well 'north of the border' for all this time. 

So ION Channel just showed the first episode or two last night, and I have to say... what is with those annoying lighting effects? It's some awful glare of lights that I imagine is supposed to be creative, but instead comes across as annoying. Does this effect continue throughout the series, or is it done away with eventually? (I noticed the same thing on the Star Trek movie a number of years ago; I didn't see the second one so I have no clue if it was repeated in that one as well.)

It gets less and less intense as the series goes on. Eventually they just use it in the supernatural scenes as opposed to all the time.

Never bothered me for some reason but I know quite a few people that find it annoying. However as I said they seem to think it's gotten a lot better since the beginning.
