Soldier in civilian hospital?

Does anyone else find this strange? If this girl is assigned to a unit that is shipping out soon then isn't there a military base nearby? Wouldn't she be in a military hospital?

reply

Think she said she was shipping out in six weeks. I don't know how things normally work but she was injured as a civilian and she probably just went to the nearest hospital.

I know this is a Canadian show but the rules are probably the same. Military personnel are never civilians, even off-duty or on liberty or leave. I think maybe the writers wanted a soldier story and ignored the rules. They could have fixed it with a couple of lines of dialogue.

Do they have a choice? Was also thinking she might have decided on her own to go to a regular hospital for fear of being kept from deploying. But again I don't know the rules, and I agree the writers probably just wanted a soldier patient.

One of my favorite ghost stories at any rate.

In the US military she would have been required to report the injury to her chain of command, even if she was nowhere near a military treatment facility. They would have sent a representative from her command or unit. If she is medically able to be moved I think she would be. I work at a Navy hospital and we get people flown in from other hospitals for that very reason.
