Did Liam Hemsworth's character die?

Just curious.
I found the movie super boring and fast forwarded most of it on Netflix.

Too bad -- you missed all the fascinating parts, which have their effect only at normal speed .

reply

No, he inadvertently got Prim killed and therefore his relationship/friendship with Katniss was destroyed. He moved to another district and got married to some other girl (not sure if that part was mentioned in the movie but it was in the books). His characters last scene was pretty underwhelming.

reply

Fits his underwhelming character, which was intentional. He was always just a good ol' boy, a classic "head-down" citizen who only knows how to be a district grunt

reply

Your view of Gale is wrong headed. Far from being a "head-down" type he is if anything
too impulsive. He starts out as a revolutionary bent on taking down the Capitol. His
flaw is that he takes an end justifies the means approach which ends in Prim's death
and the destruction of his deep friendship with Katniss.

reply

Nowhere is it stated that he married another girl. Katniss has a sour-grapes fantasy of him casually striking it up with another girl after his years of devotion to Kat, but then Katniss's fantasies are often wrong, and at this point of the story she's not being rational. (Katniss is a wonderful example of an unreliable narrator)

reply

I thought it was stated in the last book, not the film though.

"Who lives, who dies, who tells your story"

reply

I looked it up. In the book the last reference is Katniss's bitter "Gale's in 2 with a fancy job, probably kissing another pair of lips". She is of course thoroughly depressed at that point and likely to think the worst.

Many fanfics match up Gale with Johanna at the end. It makes sense -- both are firebrands, both were tortured by Peacekeepers, both longed for revenge on the Capitol, even the innocents there.
