Josh Hutchinson Miscast-possible spoilers

Why is this actor so dead on screen? Is that the way he is in the books? NO charisma, blank stares...the most absurd thing about this is that Katniss starts having a romantic relationship with him over Gale, who is is clearly charismatic and a real man. Josh is tiny-it really looked like Katniss was kissing her smaller gay brother! Any opinions on this?

Josh Hutcherson was the perfect Peeta because he captures his charisma. In the book that is how he is described. No one could have done better.

His name is Hutcherson. He clearly can act - you only need to see the last Mockingjay movie to know that. However, although you go way too far, I can sort of see where you're coming from. He could have been a lot better in this one, and so could his chemistry with Jennifer.
Why the change? Is it that Josh didn't feel he had anything interesting to work with until Peeta got hijacked? It's like he was just instructed to be this ordinary nice guy, with nothing to do except be nice, and it tipped over into bland because it just got boring for him.
This misconception that Peeta is timid and insecure, didn't make things better. He's pretty different in the books, to put it mildly.

I really liked him.
He was supposed to be gentle and passive (katniss is the protector) - a contrast to gail.
Also he was keeping his feelings under lock and key a lot of the time.
I suppose were supposed to not be sure whether he's telling stories to survive or whether he meant them, at first.
