Peeta's Nail Polish?

At the party at the presidential palace, the three middle fingers of Peeta's left hand are painted black, the three fingers used for the salute. None of his other nails are painted. Is there a significance to this, or just a sly nod?

thought it was to show that Peeta is a closet gay like Josh...

I never noticed this, but you're right. It must have been an inspiration from
the makeup department. Given the offbeat makeup worn by Capitol citizens it
would not seem out of place at the elaborate victory party. It is seen no where
else in the series. Just a sly nod.
