Butttt...if you think further, how much blood does a girl produce in a single period? In real life, I'd guess that it would only be visible as a small blood trail & only a few unnoticeable botches on the pool surface instead of a big red pool of blood around Carrie like we imagined. If that was the case, that is A LOT OF BLOOD to lose! LOL
A girl's snootch doesn't just hang open, it is closed most of the time. Periods are obviously affected by gravity but they need activity in the genital area to get out, blood won't just pour out anymore than water can rush in, in the shower she would have been washing herself and 'opened up'.
Running, jumping, jogging, walking are when you are likely to bleed, not standing in a pool while nervous.

Actually, it can be A LOT of blood, up to the point of causing anemia problems in many women.
I don't think that's usually - or ever- the case for a first ever period though.
But yeah, it doesn't happen like that while inside wáter, that's true.
