Both theatrical version and extended director's cut now streaming...

... on Netflix. Any reason to watch one over (or before) the other, or are both worthy of a view? Any suggestions (from those who have viewed both, of course) would be appreciated... thanks in advance.

Right. Well, I have to-- I have to go now, Duane, because I, I'm due back on the planet Earth.

One is heavy softcore porn, one is straight up hardcore porn. Pick whichever tickles your fancy. Having had the displeasure of witnessing both I can assure you both are just as crappy as any other film in direction and writing etc. you're going to find in porn. I take it back. At least other porn doesn't try to take itself seriously and KNOWS it's porn.

Ba humbug to you and your conservative values!

To the OP. I watched the film(s). They are definately not porn! They are also not that great either. They are however interesting and daring film making and these is nudity and a few disturbing scenes which are relevant to the story.

"Oh, Mama, can this really be the end, to be stuck inside of mobile
with the memphis blues again"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...wait wait...oh man...oh man...HAHAHAHAHAHA...

Interesting and daring? Please. It IS porn. Shows penetration, even multiple times and no not for documentary purposes. Check. It's porn. The story is wrapped around Lars One Trick's obsession with sex and that's it. The only difference in pretentious artsy crap like this and the stuff labeled actual porn is porn is brave enough to call itself what it is instead of relying on word games ("indy drama") to get it seen.

Yeah, "Melancholia" and "Dogville" were just chock full of sex from start to finish. I'm surprised Kirsten Dunst can still walk straight.

Saying von Trier is nothing but sex is nothing more than a half-assed lowblow that shows you only looking at one aspect of his films instead of the full basket. This film is about as pornographic as a reading of "A Brief History of Time". Yes, there is about half an hour's worth of extremely sexual material, but it's not pornographic. Pornography is meant to be arousing for the viewer and the sex here is just icy and hideous.
