The three actors that portray Joe, and their physical non-resemblance.

The little girl indeed only had little resemblance to Gainsbourg, but the adolescent part was tricky to cast. You needed someone with descent acting ability, willing to go full frontal and still look something like Gainsbourg. For me they cast well enough here to not break my Willing Suspension of Disbelief.

Not to mention that Shia Lebeouf and the actor who played Jerome as an older man in Nympho 2 look NOTHING alike, either. And it's not just facial differences, it's body build differences.

The actress who played young Joe is tall, thin, lanky - built like a runway model. Charlotte Gainsbourg is thin and that's about the only similarity. Shia Lebeouf is short and fairly stocky, with a large nose. The actor cast as the older Jerome was obviously much taller, with a smaller nose and square-ish face.

Yeah, people change as they age . . . but not THAT much! I am taller average for a female - 5'9" and built like a brick *beep* It doesn't matter whether I was 2, 28, or 51 as I am now, thinner or fatter (as I am now *lol*), solidly auburn-haired or mostly grey . . . I still look like ME.

On the other hand, VonTrier doesn't seem to care about trivialities like his main characters not looking ANYTHING like their younger or older selves in 'Nympho 1l or '2.' He's too preoccupied with lining up anal sex shots and graphic abortion scenes! :-)

There was actually SIX different actresses that played Joe if I counted correctly! And thats not even counting the "porn doubles". And some of them were so dramatically different from each other (completely different eye color, different ethnicities, etc.) that it seemed clear visual continuity accuracy was far less important to von Trier then actually having the right actor or sending a particular message with the mismatches.
