Does anybody else find Charlotte Gainsbourg odd looking?

Especially when looked upon in a sexual object she is just... funny lookin'. I wouldn't say ugly but I don't find her attractive because she just has a strange looking face. I think it adds to Von Trier's weirdness that he casts her in these roles. It's like he is trying so hard to be anti-establishment that he is saying "AHA! There! I will cast a funny looking chick in these sexually charged roles instead of a traditionally beautiful woman because that would be just too Hollywood man!"

I don't know. She's weird lookin' to me. Maybe I'm weird. Whatever.

I think he's trying to go for a more "realistic" look rather than a "Hollywood stylized" look, if that makes sense. Charlotte Gainsbourg can definitely be something of a "conundrum" in terms of looks. There are some styles where she's "odd," but others where she definitely shows why she's the daughter of Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin.

She's talented for sure. I give her credit for being a decent actress. I also understand going for the realistic look. I suppose it makes sense. For all we know my reaction is exactly what Von Trier was going for.

Yeah I wouldn't even go as far as to say Blanchett is weird looking. She is just not super pretty but her face is mostly symmetrical. Gainsbourg's face looks like a 5 year old's drawing. Every thing seems disproportionate.

She's not pretty in any conventional way but she is incredibly attractive and always compelling onscreen.

I'm sorry I don't mean to be argumentative but that statement sounds quite contradictory. How can someone who is not pretty be "incredibly attractive" ? I can understand stating this if you actually meet the person and get to know their personality but stating someone is not pretty yet incredibility attractive on sight alone makes absolutely no sense to me. Please elaborate.

"pretty" is just one kind of visual attraction

there's also cute / beautiful / hot / handsome / whatever / facial expressions and demeanor / all sorts of visual cues that people can find attractive about another person. some people are all about eyebrows or hair or lips or smiles or teeth or how everything comes together. and then there are all the things we don't really have words for, and all the things that would take too many

pretty is just pretty
and someone can be pretty (or any of the above) and not be attractive

people are complicated
it's this whole big thing

Her character is not supposed to be beautiful, she is supposed to be ravaged........ she lived hard, fast and reckless. There is a reason why the model-perfect Stacy Martin was cast as her younger version.

Regardless, being pretty is really not the point of the character. Anyone could have a compulsion like that. Even a less-attractive woman could screw 8 guys a day if she was very determined. Everyone finds ways of getting their needs met.

I do think she is odd looking, but I also find her super attractive, but that was only after seeing her on film/video. I'd looked her up before but pictures never really do her justice.

When it comes down to it though, I do find most humans pretty strange looking. But I do get the sense that the OP meant it in too.

Gainsbourg creeps me out. I'm sure she's a lovely person and I'm glad lots of people appreciate her looks, but I find something grotesque about her. The penis-slit mouth and squashed round nose jar with the big pretty eyes and nice hair. The protruding red nipples like child-fingers on small breasts are also unnerving. I have great respect for her as an actress, and the way she unapologetically owns her body, but yeah... weird.

Yep, the fact that these worm-nipples are hanging out while she's getting both holes stuffed by a couple of massive black... guys doesn't help. I applaud her bravery but it's all a bit 'ew'.
