I've never met anything Amityville that I've found entertaining (other than Margot Kidder in the first one, or the creepy first half of part 2), but I'll see anything with Jennifer Jason Leigh. This might be watchable.

I'm hoping it's a sequel to the original also and not the ok, but disappointing remake.
I actually enjoyed the reimagining better than the original. It wasn't really a remake. The producers never hid that they tried to put their own spin on it. Which to me is better than the original claiming to stay true to the book, which it didn't. Plus Ryan Reynolds was great in it (he needs to do serious more often).

Actually there are interviews with the cast and film makers claiming that the 2005 movie would be more true to the book, which is why so many people who follow the Amityville story were so disappointed in the remake.
I even remember a short "making of" released on Yahoo where Melissa George claims the movie will be faithful to the book, which it really wasn't.
It was a good film, but definitely not what people who want an accurate story were expecting. And the house looked atrocious. lol
The fact that they got the house correct this time around gives me a lot of hope that this will be somewhat good, though. :)

The articles I saw (remember this was years ago right after it came out) had people working on the film saying that they went a whole different direction. That being said, your case could have been to get people to see the movie and then what I saw was "Well, we lied." Lol.
