New Official PG-13 MPAA Rating

I'm so mad, you cannot make an Amityville film PG-13. I'm not hating against PG-13 horror films, Insidious, The Others, The Ring, Mama, The Visit, Krampus, The Boy, The Woman in Black, Devil and others are good films. It's just Amityville's elements and possessions are R-rated, not watered-down PG-13. Amityville is heavy stuff, not light-weight enough to PG-13. Who knows though, might be good. I DOUBT it will be great.

By this point he should know better, right?

He made the same mistake I don't know how many times.

reply

Usually wouldn't worry me because usually it just cuts language down. But now it's changed from 'strong horror violence' to 'horror violence and terror'

reply

Im still looking forward and want to see this, but this case I am hoping for a director cut. I heard the early screenings before reshoots said this was the darkest movie of the franchise. Still hope its good and I almost always enoy watching horror films.

reply

The early screenings really said that? I wasn't really looking forward to this movie, but now I'm curious. I'll still see it regardless since it has my favorite actress.

reply

You'll have a new favorite actress by the time this movie ever comes out.

reply

This movie may take a hundred years to come out, but my admiration for Leigh will be eternal.

reply

Ah, a true fan. Hope it actually comes out in January and doesn't get pushed back again.

reply

Well their is gonna have to be a directors cut on blu-ray then.
I personally don't ever recall an IMDB page say rated R for a movie, and then quickly have to completely change to a PG-13. That's pretty fu*ked up.
We all know this movie was delayed.

reply

I hope the R version makes it to Blu-ray.

reply

They did reshoots because test audiences didnt like that the ending was too dark. I mean you are going to a horror film. That sounds like a good thing.

reply

Man that is so stupid. I hate it when they wuss out because test audiences said it was too "dark". Would a cowardly thing to do.

reply

The test audience sound like bunch of pussies.

reply

Yeah, but morons don't enjoy horror movies as much. It's not the 80's anymore. Parents pussified they're kids somehow.

Amityville 3D (now know as Amityville: The Demon, was released back in 1983 with a PG rating. Granted PG-13 wasn't invented yet, but this one was shot with a less-than-R-rating approach to make it appeal to a younger crowd. They just didn't go into details about the DeFeo's history. But other than that, all things Amityville Horror related wasn't shot with anything but an R rating in mind.

I have to admit that The Amityville Horror (1979) and Amityville II: The Possession were both creepy and atmospheric, especially in their climaxes. Amityville: The Demon was watchable, it was the first in the series I ever watched, and in the eyes of a child, it is creepy as hell.

But a PG13 Amityville movie now would feel too watered down. It would feel too much like all the other PG13 horrors we got cursed with throughout the 2000s and early 2010s.

I'm so scared your little head will come off in my hands!
