I thought it was current times--remember the cell phone? But at the end, after the credits begin, I noticed all of the cars were from the 1960s. I wonder about the significance of that.

Nobody gets to be a cowboy forever.

The director/writer is English/Irish. They all love 60's American Cars. They all desire 60's big cars when they arrive to LA.

This has to be one of the most ridiculous comments I've ever read.

No "they" do not.

You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, Darling!

Remember what Charlie said to Hans at the hospital about the cravat; he likes it, it's of a by-gone era.

A lot of things in the movie are of a by-gone era, including the cars, and the music in the soundtrack, even the Vietnam storyline. It's just a theme in the movie for whatever reason.

From what I've seen, McDonagh doesn't really like to feature contemporary elements at all. In fact, I think he specifically tailors his work to be happening in any era.

IN BRUGES is set in a small, medieval cobblestone city. No cellphones are used, only trains are used for transportation, etc.

SIX SHOOTER is set entirely on a train. No technology there either.

Even look at his plays:

THE PILLOWMAN features the sparse settings of a dystopian prison. A few chairs and a table. That's it.

THE LIEUTENANT OF INISHMORE is set in the early nineties.

THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN is set in a rural farming village.

And so on, the remainder of his plays are in sparse or antiquate settings and give no real indication of contemporary setting.
