So......

was Billy telling the truth when he said he was pretending to be Hans's wife? He seemed like he was guessing, but then he guessed the gray part right.

I think it was a lucky guess. Hans didn't seem to believe him so I don't either. Also, billy and Marty were at the campfire when Hans went for his walk. I think billy just wanted to restore Hans' faith in the after life.

And it's possible that I'm mis-remembering, but I seem to recall Marty coming over to Billy and saying that Hans was questioning his belief in Heaven and Hell because he just saw his dead wife in a gray place with a bullet in her head. Am I imagining that he said that?

I just checked again and he doesn't. He punches Billy and then rants about Billy calling a psychopath to psycho-kill them, then "This guy is doubting a lifelong belief in the afterlife because of a psychedelic cactus he just ate".

It's definitely very weird. I don't think he "can do Myra's voice pretty well" or that he snuck up there to mess with his head. Maybe it's about psychopaths being very intuitive and being able to guess what people think? Or maybe he overheard them talking in the silent desert from a distance?

Either he is lying and taking on the guilt of doing something so *beep* up so that Hans can keep his belief in heaven, or he is lying. But he usually doesn't lie I think - he does stuff in secret and wants it to come out for his perfect movie ending.

PS: Hans answers "no" after Billy answers so I think Hans didn't believe it was Billy either, but Billy has giving him hope. I think it's a white lie to restore Hans's belief.
