Did anyone else just DESPISE Taylor?

For one she was way too immature (17 y/o?? Really? With her behavior?). It was like she was looking for major drama in her boring life and manufactured a MAJOR drama. Nevermind her Dad ran off with a 25 y/o, she was waiting for the REAL drama, like being called a slut on Cliquebook. Now that's a life shatterer...

I will tell you when I realized I despised this 'protagonist'. The gay guy who sat in front of her was kind to her, he showed her empathy and compassion. She was just like "You don't know what it's like to be cyber bullied" and he responds yes he does, because people on his site called him "fag" and "fruit" on his public site. Well, our dear protagonist responds with a shockingly sanguine and totally self-centered "But yeah, you're actually gay. They didn't say lies about you." At which point I HATED her. It's the universe of Taylor and no one else's.

Name calling is just a part of growing up. I understand bullying, believe me I was sort of bullied by the popular kids in school. But I had extremely smart parents who instilled in me personal integrity and confidence.

I guess what bothered me most is, this protagonist freaked out because people were calling her a slut. But she wasn't. She was a virgin. And she acted like it was worse that people were jabbing over her with lies. I think bullying goes beyond that. Just the popular kids making up things about you isn't really bullying. It's rude and uncalled for, of course, but bullying to me is when someone is being picked on for WHO THEY ARE. Whether a kid is gay, poor, fat, doesn't dress well, can't afford to keep up the latest hairstyle, ANYTHING. The real bullying is done to people who ARE the outcasts. We're supposed to sympathize more with this pretty blonde rich girl who has friends over complete BS than the gay kid who is taunted for being who he really is?!?!?

I hated her, I hated this movie. I didn't feel sorry for her. And that whole "I can't get the top off!!" scene was unnecessary. She is a freaking senior in high school and she can't open up a Tylenol bottle? GMAB. I wish Darwin would help her out. She's not cut out for this world if she's suicidal when someone calls her a slut. She's a damn virgin. She didn't get it. The writers didn't get it. Why not do a film on the gay guy. Or a fat girl?

For us to have any sympathy for this self-centered, narcissistic, drama queen is asking too much.

I thought she and her stupid friends were horribly irritating too. I had a hard time feeling any sympathy for her after her remark to the gay kid and after she wouldn't freakin stay off the damn internet.

Proud mama of Rottie..Daisy!

I know right. I was like, "Damn. What a cold bitch." I also didn't think it it would take an idiot to delete a status post. I get that it's a movie, but she was so not a sympathetic character. They should have tried a little harder.

For me though, that was the interesting part; she was self-centered, a severely flawed character. So self-centered, in fact, that one of her issues was that she didn't realize that other people were going through the same things she was. And I think that was intentional, to show how she went on a journey.

She is a freaking senior in high school and she can't open up a Tylenol bottle?

Well, to be fair...within the universe of the Family-Movie-ness of it all...'she is a freaking senior in high school under severe emotional distress who was basically losing it by the time her friend entered the bathroom.' But you're right. It took a lot of suspension of disbelief to see that she got to that point in such a short span of time.

And as for

I also didn't think it it would take an idiot to delete a status post

I would be lying if I said that I didn't yell at the screen 'DELETE IT!", but keep in mind that (IMHO), it seemed that Taylor was being presented as the type who displayed an almost-pathological need to know what people were saying about her, so much so that it blinded her to the fact that other people were going through the same thing (witness the scene of her at therapy).

The movie could have done a better job at bringing out certain aspects. But, in general, I liked it.
