Ending annoyed me
I kind of expected the movie to the the way it did (she stands up to the bully and everyone backs her up and turns against the popular girl) but I really hoped it wouldn't.
Assuming the intended purpose was to reach out to victims of bullying and educate about how to deal with it, the ending really let the movie down. The reason for this is that it was totally unrealistic.
I know it's only a movie and of course things are often dramatised and exaggerated for entertainment purposes but this just completely went in the opposite direction of what would happen in real life. You stand up to your bully, in front of everyone, are joined by not only your friends, but the popular guy and everyone then applauds? Followed, of course, by the popular guy then becoming friends with you? Don't think so.
Would also just like to mention that I'm 21 years old and was bullied in high school both by others in my class and a couple of "friends" who turned against me, so I know what it feels like.
Just think the ending should have leaned more towards the victims ignoring the bully, keeping in mind that at the end of the day, they are better than them as people and - it's only high school. Don't get me wrong, some people can be affected their whole lives by bullies, and I certainly won't ever forgive the people who bullied me, but it's over. I have made new, better friends, I'm about to graduate from university and problems I had in high school rarely cross my mind anymore.
All I know is, if I was still in that position, I'd have been able to relate to the characters and what they were going through up until the end, where I'd just be like: "Well that's nice for them but where does that leave me now? Oh yeah, back here in the real world where I could never do anything like that, thanks." I'd feel completely let down.
Anyway, I've rambled as usual (this was intended to be a short post) but that's just my opinion. Anyone else feel this way?
