Explanations of the men's actions

This movie isn't anti-military, it's anti-war. It isn't clear what happened to the 3 guys over in Iraq/afghanistan but the viewers were lead to believe that they did something wrong, maybe or maybe not illegal, that lead them to being dishonorably discharged. These 3 guys probably suffered post traumatic stress disorder PTSD. The fact that it's only been 18 days since they've been back makes it more understandable their reactions to their best friends death. Jimmy Wallace is the man who saved their lives, but we don't know what exactly he did.

It's implied that they are hunting illegally because it's not hunting season. You take 3 guys who 3 weeks ago were killing people legally, give them alcohol and give them guns, throw in a very aggressively flirtatious woman and you have a disaster going to happen. Let me be clear, she did nothing to deserve attempted raped, heck, NO ONE DESERVES to be raped for any reason. What she did was self defense. But her actions lead to his actions. He committed a crime, she did not commit a crime.

Suppose I have a concealed weapons permit where I can legally walk around carrying a gun. I walk around a dangerous neighborhood carrying a $10,000 in cash and flashing it around. I'm doing nothing illegal. Some guys approach me with the intent to rob me, brandishing knives or some other weapon. I have the legal right to shoot them with my gun if I feel my life or property is in immediate danger. You can do nothing illegal but your actions increase your chances of being a victim of a crime. You leave a wallet or purse, electronics in the front seat in plain view locked in your car - that increases the chances of your car being broken into.

I am not condoning any type of criminal behavior. I'm just trying to explain how certain criminal behavior may occur.

It's more like walking up to the most dangerous person you see and telling them they can have the 10,000 dollars then as soon as they grab it, you say you changed your mind and shoot them when they don't let go.

I don't think she deserved to get raped. But she deserved at least one good punch in the face.

It's not like this girl was walking around dressed provocatively and doing nothing else. She was luring this guy aggressively persistently and then initiates the sexual contact, knowing that this guy is not only drunk ,but has come back from a war and is possibly mentally on a short fuse due to experiences over there. We are talking about a possibly damaged individual in the war. Why would you mess around with something like that. It doesn't excuse what the solider did. But it makes it callous what this stupid bitch was doing.

If I were in that soldier's position, I would have the composure and mental strength just to walk away after calling her a bitch and a tease. But I wouldn't touch her for an extra second once she said no. It doesn't make her any less unlikable as a character though. She was a despicable person who caused so many deaths in the movie, including getting her friend killed.

She was completely wasted. She was in no way responsible for her actions. He should have known she was too drunk too consent and not followed her into the woods. I don't care if you are standing naked in the middle of a street that gives no one the right to your body. Or to even call you a slut. Slut is a term that has been invented by men to control women who get out of line and show "undesirable" characteristics. If a woman likes sex too much she's a slut. Had too many partners she's a slut. If a man said the same thing he'd be high fives. Anyone that uses that term is contributing to the degradation of women.

She is responsible for getting wasted. you act like getting wasted was an accident. If you can't control yourself, don't get wasted in public. Drink alone with trusted friends.

The male characters weren't exactly the most sober. ANd like I said, these guys were psychologically damaged from the war. But they are still responsible for their actions. There were very few likeable characters in this movie. I didn't like either side.

It's too bad the likable women die earlier.
