Can't believe they screwed this up so bad
Wouldn't have even have minded the tragic romance route with the epic disaster in the background (a la Titanic) if it was done with semi-competent writers. Feel like they missed a huge opportunity here, instead of humanising the event as much as possible with some solid character development, creating sympathetic characters/relationships, we just got mediocrity all over the shop. It's such an intriguing event, at least with The Titanic they managed to portray the incident pretty well and gave you sympathetic characters to root for and care about. I felt something at the end of The Titanic but absolutely nothing at the end of Pompeii.
Should have been much juicier, a lot more character development, and a lot longer than it was. Some better actors and actresses as well. Really annoyed that they screwed this up as I've always been really interested in the Pompeii eruption. When I heard they were going to go the tragic romance route I was actually pretty optimistic but the casting and writing ruined it
Only thing they got right was the soundtrack, which has some really good pieces and deserved a better film as it would have got more exposure as a result.
