Everything in this movie really happened. Except the volcano part. I don't even know why they threw that in there. Totally ludicrous.

It was thrown in the script because originally Michael Bay was a producer. Everything he does has to have explosions.

Wait. If the volcano part never happened, how in the hell did the people of Pompeii get covered and killed with ASH?

They were all serious chain smokers. Most of them smoked anywhere from 3-4 packs a day. Caused a lot of ash to build up.
