I ... actually enjoyed this?

In comparison to other Ancient Rome-based action movies and the Hercules films released at the same time, Pompeii is easily the most entertaining.

As a standalone b-grade adventure film, it's strangely watchable, like most of this directors films.

Sadomasochist?

I don't know what I was expecting, but somehow this movie was better than that...I guess that speaks to the absolute abomination I was prepared for.

Now that I say the word abomination, it seems sadly appropriate. Still, as a cornball, old fashioned style cliche filled epic it was okay. The special effects were impressive.

I pictured myself being able to watch it again if I were hung over on a Sunday afternoon while it was raining and the remote control was out of reach.

I agree -- enjoyed it for what it was, & for my life-long interest in Roman history and the Pompeii eruption. Plus, well...Kit Harrington, oh yum!! haha

I've only just seen it on tv and borrowed the DVD to watch it again. And, yes, I liked it very much too!
Only now, do I see the attraction of many to Kit Harington. There is definitely some charm there. (Didn't have any spark in 'Seventh Son'. Too brief an appearance? Think it's the role/character that appeals).

So did I. It's superior to "Gladiator."
