This movie couldn't decide what it wanted to be

It either needed to be about the Kid being brought into the world of male stripping, or about Magic Mike meeting a woman and her convincing him of the emptiness of his lifestyle. It tried to be about both, but really didn't end up being about either. Not to mention, for being the character who basically sets the story into motion, Alex Pettyfer's kid is basically a non-entity of a character and is poorly portrayed by Pettyfer, who is a dreadful actor.

Magic Mike was fine until Alex Pettyfer and his sister came into his life. This is the story of a man who should have fixed his credit rating and not given his new acquaintances so much power over his life.

It was disjointed, disingenuous and all over the place. I like souderberg but he was not a good director for this film. Writing was crap , acting was mediocre at best. It wasn't dark enough. They tried to cram dark drug use in at the end with no meaning. Nothing was happening. And I like slow moving, cerebral films but this just sucked. Pacing was bad. Something always felt off.
I agree it had no direction and no idea what it wanted to be. Alex p who played kid and his sister were terrible. Matthew m and Channing were okay.
Awful. Boring. Predictable. Bland. Horribly paced.

Agreed but i dont think they cared.

I think this was always going to be a movie of men stripping with some plot ideas added so they could have a good director put his name on it after they threw him boat loads of cash.

It was never going to be a full character arch that made it into the classics territory. This was trying to cash in on a big lucrative demographic....women that will never be with men like that. Its the female version of...the expendables for men. It basically conceded that was what it was going to be.

As a male i knew that soderberg would make sure there was an attempt at depth with it and i thought it was tasteful...plus olivia munn....mmmm. I just wish i had seen her in her prime five years ago. Shes 34? Droopin already.

I know a guy who was a doorman for a strip club...he always said youd think there would be hot ladies but theres not lol.

This movie was made up of situations that either happened to Channing when he was a stripper at age 18, or guys he knew who stripped...

I usually find something of interest in Steven Soderbergh films and I liked his previous Haywire, but this was kind of bland. Just a bit of this and a bit of that...and then it was all suddenly over.

Soderberg is vastly uneven as a director in his career- mostly messes he did.
I don't understand why he is rated highly. Not entertaining enough, not enough depth, not funny enough- think about it. This is consistent throughout whatever he's trying to do. The only good one was his debut.
