Horrendous

I don't contribute to online discussion prefering to read others messages but this movie was so bad I had to write. I am not American and maybe I may be missing the satire but it seems as if this movie promotes the idea that American culture is somehow like that of Rome in decline. That a culture of tv addiction, celebrity worship, narcissistic tendencies amongst youth, selfishness, cruelty, bigotry and political machinations by big oil and the right wing go hand in hand. Firstly I would disagree that all this is true, sure there are some who think like this but the majority live ordinary down to earth lives, going to work, being with family, looking to the future and stumbling once in a while along the way. Secondly this movie disagrees with what is seen as a morally decadent society and the first thing it promotes is suicide or pulling out a gun and shooting those you disagree with WHAT? I MEAN WHAT JUST HAPPENED This is typical Hollywood dribble an adrenaline filled shoot them up fest which is precisely what this movie is trying to preach against. Furthermore the protagonist corrupts an innocent child leading her to commit horrendous acts. Can't we have movies where the protagonist works his hardest to change things but is faced with unsurmountable odds succumbing to failure due to human nature or dying for the greater good.....please just please stop glorifying violence stop promoting hate. Just stop worshiping death I beg of you and please no more superiority complex by intellectuals, because frankly believing one is smarter than others is just another form of egotism. Hopefully Hollywood listens but I'm cynical because like the movie said "whatever sells"....

1) A lot of people actually make the comparison of the US to the fall of the Roman Empire. It's not a new thing. I don't find it particularly valid, but then again, how the *beep* would I know what stage our country is in in terms of total longevity?

2) Obviously the negatives are hyperbolized/inflated in order to more effectively showcase and lombast them. No one is saying all of America suffers from certain cultural "deficiencies"

3) If you think this is an adrenaline filled shoot em up, you haven't watched a lot of movies.

4) The movie doesn't preach against "hollywood dribble" at all, if I recall correctly. Although I do see how it could be argued that it does.

5) And there are plenty of movies like the example you offered. Many of them could also be categorized as "hollywood dribble."

6) I doubt this movie had a wide release, so I don't see how "whatever sells" is really relevant here. A movie like this simply does not have mass appeal.

7) I don't think this movie is supposed to be taken that seriously. Chill.

EDIT: 8) Also, he in no way corrupts Roxy. She's clearly *beep* already. He just provides her with an outlet.
