1/10. Here's why / Esta es la razón:

If a spin-off's title isn't the protagonist's name or their name mixed with the title of the movie/series it was spun off, then maybe the character wasn't popular enough to get their own movie. PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR doesn't have any names in the title. In fact, it's the (rather impersonal) way viewers use to refer to the characters. Shouldn't that have given the makers a clue? When I say SKIPPER and KOWALSKI, do you automatically think of this franchise? Or do you think about GILLIGAN'S ISLAND and A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE (http://vits-ingthemovies.blogspot.cl/2016/06/comments-round-up-may-2016.html)? What about RICO? You probably think of STARSHIP TROOPERS, LITTLE CAESAR or maybe even HOME ON THE RANGE. What about PRIVATE? That's a tricky one because it's not a name. The name that does get the right association is KING JULIEN. Assuming there had to be a spin-off of MADAGASCAR (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qD1Z27pl4zk), he deserved one more. I say "Assuming" because I doubt this franchise, which I never liked to begin with, needed to be expanded. This movie is as funny as being told by the doctor that you're sick... after having gone through a colonoscopy. Also, after seeing how 4 animals of different species and personalities interacted mostly with one another, it's boring to see how 4 animals of the same species and relatively same personalities interact mostly with one another.

Any thoughts?

Yes I find that a very flimsy argument for panning a perfectly fine animation.
Your entire argument hinges on name recognition, yet as the "Penguins of Madagascar" they are perfectly recognizable, since in real life there is no such thing as a Madagascar Penguin. Heck, the 2 previous Madagascar films weren't even set in Madagascar!
By your reasoning all Spiderman films should change their title to Peter Parker. Or Batman to Bruce Wayne. Or Tarzan to Lord Greystoke.
Disney made that mistake with "a Princess of Mars" as if we would now who "John Carpenter" was. Hell they even dropped the
"of Mars" bit.
Even more to give it a 1/10 score. That would mean it would have to be completely without merit. Can you honestly say the animation, voice acting, editing and sound direction was the worst you've ever seen? No? Then don't rate it a 1/10!

Why? Those are the characters' names. Those movies aren't called "Super-hero"/"Man living in the jungle".

You mean JOHN CARTER?

Why are you answering for me? Those aspects weren't the worst I've ever seen (which is why I didn't give the movie a 0), but that doesn't mean they were good. The script in particular I thought was awful.

So because the movie title did not have a name, you gave it a 1/10? Makes absolutely no sense to me.

reply

No. I mentioned other issues.
