stupid things people did in this film.........

DISCLAIMER: if any of my entries are incorrect or inaccurate i apologize in advance. i really enjoyed this film and i am in no way bashing it.

1. going to investigate the killers home or property without a gun weapon or ANYTHING to protect yourself...... but worse than anything...going ALONE!!

2. calling the girl back and subsequently getting her killed.

3. not just opening the door once she crawled out of the trunk. i could be wrong but wasnt the door unlocked??

4. walking towards the abductor with a box cutter instead of just opening the unlocked door on your side of the car to release the girl

5. asking your teacher why she isnt answering the phones while she is teaching you.....like seriously.

The scene at the gas station is obvious. She couldn't climb out of the trunk. She got stuck (obviously having hips you're going to get stuck in that small opening). Of course she was probably trying to do just that but then she had to try and get the attention of the attendant.

Now, since she screamed for his attention after she couldn't get him to look over, the kidnapper noticed at the same time. He hit the power lock button which locks all the doors, so of course the attendant couldn't just open the "unlocked" door on the passenger side. He should have tried breaking in the window instead.

LOL. What a dumb movie. It was almost like a typical slasher from the 80s

reply

I know.. how stupid... you gotta call when you farthre away from the bad guy and you gotta be facing him so you know he cant sneak up on you! geez..

reply

the woman should have called the police before going into that cave.

reply

Well, she tried, but dropped the phone down the hole. No signal down there. Should she have gone down, retrie Ed the phone, brought it back up, then called? Maybe.

An adult with that kind of work and close ties to law enforcement (BF, father), making a pact with a child to let the wanted serial killer starve to death in an easily found cellar littered with their DNA on his own property. Darwin award.

reply

Yeah, I kind of wrote that off as a pulpy revenge flick homage.

When the man kidnapped with the girl woke up and panicked by screaming.

In fact, I knew he wasn't dead after he was clubbed with the shovel. I predicted he would wake up and do something to complicate the girl's attempt to call for help.

reply

He may well have had a head injury.

He should have stayed down after the first hit with the shovel and played dead instead of getting up.

The classic, text-book "hit the bad guy on the head with a couple light blows expecting him to be knocked out cold, TURN YOUR BACK ON HIM, have a sentimental moment with the person you're trying to save, and to everyone's surprise...he gets back up and starts attacking you." Didn't see that one coming. Other than that though it was a pretty damn good movie.

#2 calling the girl back actually wasn't bad.

My cousin who is a 9-1-1 operator in real life told me that if you DON'T call someone back that could also cost someone their life.

Lets not forget, that in general when a phone ring that doesn't really alert a killer that someone is at home. Anyone could have called "parents of the girl, friends etc...." actually IF ANYTHING, Leah gave herself away by answering the phone

reply

it's different when you tell a girl to hide under a bed and you know she has a cordless or cellular phone. calling her back immediately is just stupid. she admitted it herself.

I was shocked when the police found the family cabin, he wasn't there, and they just said, "Ok, he's not here, lets go." No one stayed behind to look for more information? More clues as to his background to figure out why he abducted the girl or maybe where else he could have taken her? Berry is there for 5 minutes and finds the cancer pictures.

Also, Berry doesn't tell her cop friend about the chain/banging she heard in the background of the phone call. If she had and if the cops had stayed to search that cabin, someone might have heard/found that flag pole too.

Berry is searching the cabin all by herself, no gloves, no indication that she's interested in preserving any evidence at all. A defense attorney would have a field day.
