7th Inning Stretch

Some fans think that the real beginning of the end for the Cubs in Game 6 came before Bartman when Bernie Mac sang Take Me out to the Ball Game. When he got to the line, "Let's root, root, root for the home team", instead of saying that or the Cubs, he said "Let's root, root, root for the champions" The game was not over and while the Wrigley Field crowd was in an excited frenzy they may not have paid attention to it.

There is a book I've read that states when Mac ad-libbed the line, a shocked Red Sox fan said to his wife, "mark my words the Cubs are going to lose this game". I guess that if any fan knew not to declare victory before the final out was made, it would have been a Red Sox fan. Not to say that Bernie Mac should have been blamed as Bartman was but I'm sure the Cubs fans watching the game at home found it disturbing and may have anticipated something going awry.

That's weird that a Red Sox fan was paying more attention to this series than their own series against the Yankees. I call BS on this.

And Bernie Mac saying champions had absolutely nothing to do with collapse.
