What's with all the harpoons?

I missed the start of the movie. Did they rob a harpoon factory?

Haha I was wondering what's the point of anchoring the cars to the plane? Why not just harpoon the engines. A measly jeep or 3 won't stop that plane taking off.

They were aiming for the flap to prevent the plane from taking off, not trying to tether the cars to it.
