Florence question

just want to start by saying I love this show...but just troubled by Florence

She is meant to be quite senior in her role in the police force but she comes across are very very dim. Even when she was in uniform the most efficient thing she did was - 'do u want me to get everyone together' (the end Piorot moment)

As a senior member of staff she never has any ideas- doesn't really contribute to the investigation rather than tag along with the others

I am 100% sure I would have more ideas and be a better police woman than Florence and I am not even in law enforcement

I just don't like stupid people in positions of authority....I suppose in comparison Camille did give as good as she got, there was more debate and she did have ideas.

Florence just seems to be a tag along. think if she had to do some police work alone she wouldn't know what to do...realistically is that someone who would even make it Into the force?

reply

I think part of it is the change of inspectors. The prior inspector did not need someone to keep him organized and this one does. Unfortunately almost all she does is the organizational and fact checking work. She also has a lot less experience than Camille (or Dwayne). She is still learning.

I think Florence becomes a stronger character in season 5. I like her more now.

After Ben Miller left, I really didn't like the show, & then Fidel & Camille left. I disliked seasons 3-4, but have to say they've found their stride in season 5.

Humphrey's clumsiness really got in the way of everything. This has been toned way down. The chemistry of this cast has finally gelled.

(I still miss Richard/Camille relationship tho, *sigh*)

reply

I can't figure out why Humphrey has to be written as such a clumsy oaf. It's just not that funny and it got old very quickly.

reply

Agreed. I was sick of it after the firsts few episodes. I think that's why they changed it, and it's worked out for the best.

reply

She is not very credible. She would be carrying herself in a more professional manner. They have her running around in shorts when she should be in business attire.

reply

It *is* a tropical island, though. And Humphrey doesn't dress up much - only to the extent of wearing a jacket with his shirt and slacks.

reply

Camille wore shorts and tank tops also.

Nevaxa, you may be a really nice person... but I totally DISAGREE with everything you just wrote.

Florence is "not very credible?" Says who? As I see it, Josephine Jobert fills her role as Detective Sergeant Florence Cassel very well. She seems especially valuable when researching the Internet, as I don't think Humphrey and Dwayne are experts in that field. And I laughed out loud (really!) when I came to this nugget of yours:

"They have her running around in shorts when she should be in business attire."

Florence may be the smartest person on the team, if she prefers to wear shorts on a Caribbean island where the average daily temperature is in triple digits. In fact, shorts should be de rigueur in that situation.

Not only that, but Josephine Jobert happens to own two of the prettiest legs on TV. So, of course the producers should choose to put those gams in short shorts. I say, the more often the better.

One more thing: The producers of "Death in Paradise" seem to be my kindred spirits. I love to look at pretty women's legs, and here they seem to have them in abundance. Not only Florence, but even some of the female guest stars get to show off their gams...notably, Emma Catherine Rigby, who played the 26-year-old Laura Hagen, and Neve McIntosh, who played Nicky Hoskins. Those ladies have legs that go on for days, and I am so happy the producers of this show signed them up.

Cheers,
Dan

Oooo, that makes exciting television!

Florence is bland; Camille should have stayed.
