3 great things about this show
Like others who posted: I was kinda "meh" the first couple times I caught this show but then got super into it--I loved watching on Netflix over the winter while looking out at the gray skies and dirty slush left over from the latest snowfall.
Repeated viewing exposes some things, like the scripts copying some phrases of dialogue. But especially for such light-hearted fare, I'm so impressed by the following:
1. Soundtrack--I am discovering a whole catalog of music previously unknown to me, and loving it!
2. Superb acting-- Both the series regulars and guest stars are wonderful. They really make up for some of the weaknesses of the scripts and story lines.
3. Thanks in large part to the great acting is what I would not have expected from this series: the relationships are so real. Our day-to-day personal and professional relationships are fluid, complicated, and substantive. I admire how this show captures that. Camille's gradual attraction to Richard, Humphrey's secret yearning for Camille, Dwayne's negotiations with both Fidel and TJ, the ups and downs amid a solid foundation of mutual respect and love.... There is nothing slapstick or melodramatic or two-dimensional about it. Other shows with greater pretensions don't come close to matching this.
