Thank you for bringing this up. I'm on S3E3 and was coming here to ask the same thing.

But why is he there in the first place? The lizard is there only for comic relief (which I think is getting a bit stale by now), and it is pretty evident that the production crew does not spend a lot of money when making this show. Why would they spend what would have to be a good deal of money to a computer company just to make the little guy instead of just get rid of him altogether?

reply

I think the lizard represents a continuity. Whoever comes and goes and stays in the shack, the lizard remains. It also makes sense there would be a critter hanging around.

I like the lizard. I think it's a nice unexpected touch.

Agree 1000%!!
Harry's my favorite character outside of Duane!!

One of the reasons is that Harry the lizard is a plot device. It is a way for the viewers to hear the DI's inner monologue because he can speak what he's thinking out loud to the lizard.

I assumed he was computer-generated. It would be extraordinarily difficult, if even possible at all, to train a small reptile to hit marks and cues the way Harry does. It's not like he's a dog. Harry is a quite likeable character, much more so than his annoying cousin who works for Geico.
