So disappointed in these cast changes...spoilers

Someone posted this link about why Camille left, or at least, info on her leaving. I'm re-posting it. See it here:

I'm really disappointed. First Ben Miller left, then the actor who starred as Fidel. Now Camille. And they were building an arc around a romance with her and Humphrey (not that I wanted nor liked that - but it was a storyline). What next? Who next?

I'm glad we're not going to get the romance thing though; I prefer to concentrate on the case and how it is handled. I find that Humphrey looks so weak, like a lovesick puppy around Camille, and I don't like that. I want him strong and focused on his work. I wish they had let him make up with his wife when she had come to the island. Well that's my two cents.

Humphrey appears to have realised that he let Camille slip through his fingers and has wasted little time with Officer(or is that Detective Sergeant) Florence Cassell, by all but dragging her onto the dance floor.

I'm all for attractive women, but I wonder about the necessity for Camille, and now Florence, to go around on duty wearing short shorts. Do female members of any police force wear such revealing clothing? (I do realise that the shorts aren't uniform, but civilian wear.)

In the recent episode about the aged pop group, the camera did seem to focus almost too many times on the middle of Florence's body and her thighs before panning away. Not really necessary.

I like Florence. She's more positive than Camille, who spent most of the time rolling her eyes. Plus, she's more attractive. It has to be said that she has great legs, so I hope the shorts wearing continues!

Mariburian, I don't think that Humphrey will set his eyes on Florence. I think he wanted to stop her from talking about Camille and diverted her by taking her on to the dance floor.

I was really surprised by his demeanour in this episode. He seemed more serious, less clumsy and more focused on his work. If this is the new Humphrey, I like it. I find that when he was around Camille, he was like a basket case, always fumbling and making endless mistakes. Did you notice that he didn't make much mistakes or be as clumsy as before? I hope this continues as I have a new respect for him. I liked Camille but not so much that I wish her back. I can handle the new team and hope they all stick around. As another poster says, Camille was always rolling her eyes, and she made a "puppy dog" out of him without realising it, as she did not know he had feelings for her. I think it's best to leave Camille where she is and let's all move on.

I think the transformation of Florence into a Camille is unnecessary.
I didn't mind how Camille dressed, it is a tropical island.
Why don't give Florence some personality?

reply

I hate romance on shows like these, and never liked Camille, so I am fine with it.

reply

Me too Jane. This show is terrific without any romance drama. I really wish they would leave that part out and concentrate on the cases ans that is what I'm sure people tuned in for.

Me too. I don't know understand this unwritten rule, that a male and female lead in a show MUST always end up falling in love with each other somehow, someway.

I hadn't realized that my login was no longer working when I tried to reply to you to let others know that the link you posted has a typo in it.

The correct value, which I got by searching for her name on the site, is as follows:

But thank you, as I discovered that imdb no longer (as of sometime in 2014) allows logins via the nickname value but only by the email address. And then the captcha function is way different than other companies' use of by enforcing spacing and capitalization.

I had to hunt down my netscape email address and password. But if changing anything is going to be problematic, since one can't access a netscape.net account. And then they went with an outside company for their 'community page.' Yeah, not good at all. But they didn't put that notice on the imdb home page which is why I never saw the notice.

Wondered why she shows up in uniform then Camille leaves and she breaks out the rompers and shorts. At least dress her classy. Island or not the way they chose to dress the women made them eye candy it was disrespectful for the position both women. Who would really take either serious? The chief dressed with his uniform both of the Englishmen wore jacket & long sleeves. Im watching the episode after Camille left and her replacement shows up in the a black romper that barely covered her ass.

When Camille left, Florence was promoted to detective, in the UK (as with almost any nation anywhere) detectives do not wear uniforms - male or female.

Also shows like Death in Paradise and Wild at Heart always have cast members leaving after a while because as gorgeous as places like Jamaica and Kenya might be the actors (or their families) eventually get homesick, or if they are living in the UK but filming abroad then several months away from home and family every year takes a toll.

Liked Ben Miller. Struggled with Kris Marshall for a couple of episodes, until I got used to him and now I like him a lot. Never cared for Camille, never thought that she was all that attractive. Florence is a huge upgrade in the looks department, if I can be that shallow and sexist and not get flamed for it.

I didn't care one way or the other about Fidel. His replacement with JP is just fine with me. Here are the characters that I actually care about:

Poole, Humphrey, Dwayne, Catherine. Any episode that includes these four characters works for me. The others can come or go, as far as I'm concerned, without negatively affecting my enjoyment of the show.

While I liked Richard, I will admit I like Humphrey more. Richard was the fish-out-of-water character which was enjoyable but I found myself laughing at him rather than with him. Humphrey on the other hand was more laid back and felt like he was in on the joke and I just find his character more relatable.

While I enjoyed Camille more than Florence, I preferred her dynamic with Richard more than Humphrey. The way she conflicted against Richard was very enjoyable. Humphrey having a crush on her was cute but it was one of those will-they-relationships that you know won't happen, so they ended it perfectly. I like Humphrey and Florence's dynamic also, they truly respect each other and are good friends with no hint of romance.

I didn't care for Fidel so I don't miss him, I guess I like JP slightly more. I'm glad Dwayne, Commissioner and Catherine are still regulars.
