Is Humprey leaving?

With this two parter in London, I wonder if he'll decide to stay there with Martha instead of returning to the island and another detective - maybe one introduced in the two parter - will take over

I hope not. I think Kris Marshall is great as Humprey

reply

I really hope not! I enjoy tuning in every Thursday seeing him. He's hilarious and I love his wacky but awkward personality.

reply

Please, say it will happen! I cannot stand Humphrey. A little bit of goofy is okay. But, he goes beyond goofy into buffoonery.

Just GO!!!!!!!

reply

He may be abit TOO distracted / goofy sometimes, but, I think Kris is great as a detective - he was in Murder City aswell - and I really hope he's not leaving

But it's just a thought I had watching this week's episode and the teaser for next week's. Hope not

reply

Looks like he's indeed leaving.

reply

Oh no. That's disappointing. Have you heard anything?

reply

Has his departure been confirmed? I haven't been able to find any information.
I would be really sad if that's the case. Humphrey is such an endearing character. I think his quirks are well balanced with his intellect.

I have never watched the episodes prior to his arrival, but I don't feel like I have missed out because Kris Marshall is so good in this role.

I think the show should end if he does leave. It has gone through too many changes, sadly.

reply

As far I know it hasn't been confirmed as it was just something I thought when I saw this episode, but, I really hope I'm totally wrong as it would be disappointing as Kris Marshall is so good in the role

I don't think you really need to see the earlier series. With the loss of Poole and Humprey's arrival, it was like a whole new show anyway (similar to Poole arriving to investigate the other detective's murder) and it could be a different show. Actually knowing what happens to poor Poole kinda makes the earlier seasons sad

reply

Kris has confirmed this morning that he has left Death in Paradise. Such a shame. He was so good. I don't know if the show should continue anymore without him as it has already changed so much. Such a disappointment

Ardal O'Hanlon from tonight's two parter (which I thought he might sadly) will replace him

reply

Nooo!  I had a feeling he'd be leaving but was hoping not. He did such a great job fitting into the show after Ben Miller's departure. I will miss Humphrey.

reply

He's done such a good job. He could have gone on to be a "iconic" cop. He made the show his own after Poole. I'm very disappointed

reply

The Father Ted priest is replacing him. He's a much more likeable character imo.

reply

I hope not. I think that something happens to either make Martha go back with Humphrey or they break up/try a long distance relationship which will fail.

But maybe it's because I just don't care for Humphrey/Martha. I've (slowly and quietly) started rooting for Humphrey/Florence. I like the two of them together. There's no 'in your face' thing going on (Maybe there isn't even supposed to be any and it's all in my head ).

But I do like how their friendship has been building up. Plus, he can talk to her, which he can't seem to do with Martha. That last thing annoys me so much. How can you build a relationship if you turn into a starry-eyed and stammering fool each time you try to have a conversation? It bothered me with Camille, and now with Martha.

reply

Yes, I agree. His romance with Martha just hasn't sat right with me so I hope it ends. It just hasn't felt natural so I'm not rooting for them

I don't think there's supposed to be anything there, but, I love Humphrey and Florence. They respect and like each other and can open up to each other.

reply

I t has been confirmed that Kris is leaving and Ardal O'Hanlon will take over from him

reply

Aidan O'Halloran, you mean! Dougal from Father Ted. He is brilliant!

reply

Yes!

reply

I'm sure Ardal is a lovely man, but I think Marshall is so perfect in this role. I will miss him a lot.

reply

Kris is leaving for the same reason as Ben Miller.
He wants more time with his family.
Each season inviloves living in the Caribbean for 6 months.
They both have schoolmage children, and I presume don't want to interupt their schooling.

reply

agnabeya, thanks for the info. I had not heard anything about his departure.

reply

When your young son wont talk to you over Skype because you are not there to play with him, its hard for Kris Marshall. However Ardal O'Hanlon looks like he could be a welcome new member of the team, and having a family in UK (in the series) we may stop these stupid romantic side plots.
