I'd be friends with Nadine

Nadine seemed pretty cool. And she had a pretty realistic view on the world as opposed to most kids in a sheltered town like that.

An immature, self-absorbed, narcissistic, insecure, mind-game playing b!tch? Yup, have fun with your new friend.

This movie is refreshing because it doesn't make excuses for Nadine like so many other teen films do. It doesn't cute-ify her and excuse her for lolz and jokes. It calls her BS out at every turn. While still a fairly typical teen film in tone and comedy, it's one of the more scathing views of teens I've seen in a while without being grim and depressing.

I thought her reaction to her best friend sleeping with her brother was pretty appropriate. That's a pretty low thing to do.

I've seen my friends get in far worse fights for hooking up with younger sisters.

And most girls her age are immature and whatever else you said Nadine was. High school girls overreact over things that might seem like the end of the world but in the scheme of things are pretty irrelevant.

And her relationship with her brother was also pretty accurate. Older brother/younger sister dynamic with that minimal age difference, of course they're going to be at each other's throats. I have a younger sister just a few years apart and when we were in HS we would fight over who would get the house when the parents were out and had basically every argument Nadine and her brother had.

It was a really accurate portrayal and Nadine reminded me a lot of girls I was friends with in high school.

All this to say the only thing that wasn't accurate was Nadine only having two friends (Eyebrow girl and the Asian dude)

Why? Why is this such a taboo with people? Unless one of the parties is under-age or some other outlyer, then why should this stupid "code" be upheld? I can see being weirded out by it at first, but if my brother/sister were genuinely happy with my friend and I noticed that they were good for each other, it's none of my business. Nobody should cut out happiness over so stupid "bro/girl code" nonsense.

Because it's just uncomfortable for all involved. As boyfriend and girlfriend you'd expect to spend a lot of time with each other. I know when I had a GF during my HS years we would usually spend the entire weekend together.

That eliminates any free time to spend with your friend and could create a strain in the relationship.

What happens if things don't end up working out? I wouldn't want to see my ex girlfriend on a daily basis, especially in my own home. But I also wouldn't blame my sister for wanting to have her best friend over. That's what best friends do.

Definitely makes for an awkward situation. What happens if he wants to bring his new girlfriend over but the sister also has her best friend/ex over? That's just freaking weird...

All of this can be avoided by, y'know, being an adult.

These are high school kids though.. Even the most popular of girls at my school got into fights over petty BS

I'm not saying it's easy or that it would even work out in the end. But I simply don't see why this situation should be a deal breaker for anyone involved as long as they just talk it out.

How old are you? You sound a little out of touch.

reply

Yeah same here, i dont understand how she only had one friend.

reply

Same. Literally all my friends do is text, gossip and fück guys.

reply

She reminded me of me - so maybe we would have been friends! :-)

If I were in high school I would have been in love with Nadine.

I'd be hesitant about being friends with someone like her. Long ago, I was "friends" with a woman around my age named Jamie who had issues similar to Nadine, only MUCH worse. Needless to say, her and myself parted ways long ago. Both the real-life Jamie and Nadine in this movie have more issues than Newsweek.

I'd hump her.
