Should've picked a plain looking actress for Nadine...

I really enjoyed the movie. Hailee gave an amazing performance, to be honest I hadn't seen much of her other work and thought she was in the same league as Shailene Woodley...man was I wrong. She is super talented as well as gorgeous. A little hard to believe that someone with her looks had a hard time with guys as well as friends. She seemed like a nice, funny person too (minus the bitterness she had about being lonely, losing her dad and being over shadowed by her brother). I'm well past high school (28 now) but from what I remember the only people in my high school (and I went to 3 different ones) in her category were either really overweight / unattractive or just extremely awkward + plain looking. Never saw a pretty girl or a hot guy in her position.

I really enjoyed the film. But I agree with you on Hailee. She gave a very strong performance but it was hard to believe that she was a total outcast being that she is quite pretty.

If someone's an outcast as a kid, they'll be an outcast in high school, no matter how pretty they are. I grew up knowing a girl who was considered incredibly weird and was bullied s lot. She grew up to be very pretty and very nice, but no one really talked to her because it's a small town and everyone grew up knowing everyone. People remembered her personality from when she was 7 rather than her much mellowed out 17, so people generally left her alone

its moviez so realism is out da door, lotz of exaggeration and added action, 1-linerz vs real conversation, and every1 is white

I guess some things will never change. Same old trolling statements mixed with the horrible grammar and bad spelling shtick. Oh well, everyone needs a hobby.

You do realize that a persons personality plays a huge factor in them getting friends or not, right? And notice how when she was a the party she never tried to talk to anyone that was in the house. Only the girl who was sitting by herself outside. That was after the girl started talking to her though.

Rodents of Unusual Size?...I don't think they exist.

I know. I know enough people who are above average and have difficulties getting and keeping relationships of all kinds. The real difference is that when attractive people have issues people assume that it's because they're not interested in relationships/friendships.

Yeah I had similar thoughts. Hailee Steinfeld is a great actress, and she does a great job in the role don't get me wrong, but she's really only awkward in a Hollywood kind of way. Still a good movie though.

I went to college with a girl who was very good looking, she actually did a little modeling while we were in college. One day just out of the blue we started talking about bullying. She asked me if I was ever bullied. To which I said no, I made it all the way through school without being bullied thankfully. She in turn replied that she was bullied a lot. People would call her names, throw things at her, hit her and spit in her hair. She was neither overweight/unattractive or extremely awkward. She was an extremely nice person. I've always been shy and found it hard to talk to people I've just met. Yet she was the first person to reach out to me and made me feel comfortable talking to the people in class.

I know if she went to my school, there was no chance she would have been treated like that.

I was pretty okay looking when I was a teenager. And I had all sorts of issues. Including lots of issues fitting in/finding my place. I was a misfit who only felt comfortable among misfits. Nowadays I use that word as a compliment. So - no - it's not true that only really plain girls get in that position.
