Annihilation Earth was good until the last scene.

Splinter is "dead", the Earth has been "destroyed", and billions upon billions of people "killed"...yet Mickey smiles about the coca and Casey thinks things are awesome??? Did he forget that he lost his family? Mickey can't be that dumb to get over his sadness about Splinter so soon? And the Turtles just let Splinter body...go???

Man, everything was great til those scenes. Its like the writers create a tragedy and forgot about it.

8.5/10.

I couldn't agree more! I HATE how they are portraying Mikey in this series. While I am not a big fan of tmnt 2003 I have to say that Mikey was handled much better in that series. He was still goofy but knew when to be serious. You just watched your Sensei/father die and then you forget!? wtf. Same with Casey too.

reply

Exactly. Besides that I thought everything was very good and kept me on the edge of my seat.

reply

Hey, mixing dire moments with goofy ones is what Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles all about.

Besides, we all KNOW they'll use time travel (or the Dragon Balls) to fix everything as if it never happened & just won't matter, so there's really no point in getting all choked up about it 

reply

I was surprised what's-her-name didn't show up to fix things. Reychelle? Something like that.

Compared to last season's finale, it's incredibly inconsistent. Remember when Raph almost lost it when Splinter got beaten unconscious by Shredder? Mikey had to hug him to calm him down. And at the end of it all, everyone was emotionally wrecked, including Casey. Them being excited about a new adventure after seeing the entire Earth disappear is just about the last thing that makes sense in this series. It's a potential "jump the shark" moment if they stay on this course next season.

I remember that scene and a bunch of others which is why I thought the last scene of Annihilation Earth pt.1 was lazy writing. No way would anyone in the group be happy after what they witness..NO ONE!

No its not. You must be watching a different show. Give the series more credit than that. TMNT has done quite well with balancing the drama and comedy so that a pitiful excuse.
yeah we know that as it's painfully obvious, but they don't know that. So Mikey suddenly being all happy and Casey screaming "This is awesome!" is just bad writing no matter how you spin it.

Exactly. It made no sense after what they been through. That just made the characters seems cold and heartless.

reply

Raph, not Ralph.

It was actually pretty in line with how they've made Mikey and Casey for this go around.

reply

It's really not given the way they acted in the previous season finale.

reply

Have to agree.

It was a decent episode (not the best by far), but once Splinter got stabbed in the back, I just KNEW there was going to be some absolutely stupid Deus Ex Machina moment. I just didn't anticipate it being THIS stupid.

Mikey was never so stupid before in the previous seasons as to be mollified by the loss of Splinter with a hot beverage. There was absolutely zero real emotion in the scene of Splinter dying, unlike the pacing and emotion they put into the first time he was almost killed.

What's even crappier is that they "hung a lantern" on this very ending by having Crognard the Barbarian end on a crappy note as well. That there already prepared me for a *beep* ending to the season, simply because of the (usually subtle) parallels they draw between the cartoons they take the piss out of during the show.

This feels like a shark-jumper to me. I'm honestly not considering watching the next season if it's going to continue on this lame tangent of half-assed writing...

reply

And what did I tell you? In the FIRST episode of the new season, and they've already reversed time... just is Mikey did to "save" Crognard on the video.

Lame.

The first episode felt like it really lacked any direction as well... just stuff happening, no real thrust to it all. I realize it's all setup for the season, but man... this feels like a shark-jump to me.

reply

I actually enjoyed the first ep. They didn't waste any time doing what we already know is going to happen anyway. And they actually started the characters on a depressed note, unlike how the previous season finale ended. In fact, I think they even tried to retcon that awkward ending by showing an image of the turtles crying over Splinter.

Quite frankly, it would've been better if last season's finale ended with the time rewind. Then Casey's "This is awesome!" line would've made more sense, and this first ep would've started more smoothly. As long as they keep the tone appropriate, they should be able to avoid more potential shark-jumps.

reply

Actually, Shredder's betrayal was ridiculously forced as well. For a man who prefers to fight Splinter one-on-one for an honorable victory, he all of a sudden has no problem literally stabbing the latter in the back just as the Earth was about to be saved. Which doesn't even make any sense given that he could've done the same thing before (in his lair w/ the help of his minions) or after they fight the Triceratons. Not to mention that the Shredder-"kills"-Splinter finale has already been done in the previous season. *facepalm*

reply

Gotta agree with you there.

The fact they were stooping so low as to bring back Lord Dredge was kind of a clue things could go south...

(If Venus shows up, we riot)

reply

I been wondering since they destroyed the earth & killed off everyone except the turtles April & Casey if they are planning to end the show or if they will have them go back in time a bit & stop it from happening.

A 5th season was just announced, and possibly more to follow in the future.

reply

Splinter dyeing and earth being destroyed is pretty awesome. No old man telling you what to do anymore, and with the earth gone you don't have to worry about cleaning up your room.

reply

Go stand over there.

No, over there.

Further.

Keep going.

Yeah... now, don't talk.

reply

So basically... Hakuna Matata!
