BvS was more hype. It was a new and unique concept. Batman againts Superman? Who would win? How? It's far more intriguing than yet another Batman reboot.
But this movie did very well for a merely yet another Batman reboot.
and even the much loathed and criticized Suicide Squad made more money and it was released in China.

SS16, had an insane amount of hype, those were the good ole days on IMDb. The trailer was awesome and the movie was good not great but definitively better than the new remake/reboot.
