"Robin Should Be Banned From All Batman Movies Forever"
One reason so many Batman movies get made is that among comic book heroes, he is NOT a superhero. He has no superpowers. He gets the job done with gadgets and cars and planes and his fighting skills.
In other words: he's James Bond. And thus all these Batman films are really a dark take on the Bond series, and can continue on forever.
But honestly, can you imagine James Bond toting a teenage boy around with him on life-or-death adventures. Or asking the kid to "please wait outside" while he bedded some woman?
One reason that the 1966-era Batman show is looked on with ridicule today -- despite its truly GREAT roster of guest villains, and in addition to the Super Square presentation of Batman/Bruce Wayne -- is ROBIN! Always saying "Holy Pancakes, Batman!" or something and generally behaving like a well behaved teenage brat. The sexiest Catwoman (Julie Newmar) was always trying to get Robin out of the way (including killing him) so she could have Batman all to her sexy self.
I suppose that comics were, at one time, for kids, so having a "kid comic hero" like Robin to go along with Batman was the "kids thing to do."
But Batman went and got serious along the way. It started a bit with Burton(the kinky Batman Returns) solidified with Nolan's series, and now has the dark and violent "The Batman" to continue that trend.
Robin doesn't belong.
He probably never did, because EITHER:
ONE: Robin turns Batman into an older brother figure or, worse, father figure, and turns the Batman series into a "family show."
OR:
TWO: The older man/younger man duo give off "gay vibes' in an ever more savvy and smarmy culture. SNL spoofed this with their "Ambiguously Gay Duo" series; and the two Joel Schumacher films had a gay vibe that the female characters could not break through.. Moreover, TODAY, making Batman and Robin gay jokes is strictly off limits.
Indeed, for whichever of the above reasons, Schumachers' two Batman films -- Batman Forever and Batman and Robin(there, he finally made it into the title) are considered the WORST in the series. Robin kind of messed them up.
I think it is pretty clear than neither Tim Burton nor Chris Nolan wanted Robin in their Batman films -- though Nolan allowed for a "Robin-esque' origin character in The Dark Knight Rises(to follow Batman as the hero, not to join him.) Robin is OUT.
Its probably a given. But it should be a law:
No more "Batman and Robin." No more Robin.
Let Batman live on as a dark, violent, creature of vengeance by night, a suave ladykilling rich guy by day.
Robin is OUT.
