Lalaland running out of ideas

The umpteenth reboot. We got three Spiderman reboots in a few years. And now THE Batman? Why THE? Because it's so special? What next? The Superman?

reply

They didn't run out.

It's always about one idea: avoid risk

reply

There hasn't been an original idea since The Epic of Gilgamesh.

reply

I wouldn't mind The Superman movie...

It'll be nine years since the last Batman film came out by the time this is released. That's a long enough time for a reboot. There was less time than that between Batman and Robbin and Batman Begins (only five years)

reply

Eight years.

reply

eight years and 11 months. It's pretty fair to just estimate that to nine years.

reply

But you said five years. It’s no big deal.

reply

I said nine years. Five years was in reference to the gap between Batman & Robin, and Batman Begins.

reply

Right. But the gap between Batman & Robin and Batman Begins was eight years, which is what I meant in my original post.

I think it's "THE Batman" because they needed a new title and the definite article differentiates it from Batman, the film from 1989 - title-wise, anyway.

Retelling stories is part of storytelling. Ask the Brothers Grimm. We're still coming up with new takes on the Odyssey (O Brother Where Art Thou?). Rebooting, re-imagining, or remaking is not intrinsically a problem. Doing so aimlessly (as with The Amazing Spiderman (done to maintain "dibs" for "grown-ups")) is a problem.

Now, I'm not sure which one this is...
