This show needs to revamp its judging system
Show has been on the air quite a long time. Had no idea, Anyway, I was just browsing Netflix and came across this, so put it on in the background. Watched an entire season, and one guy (Jergen) was clearly the best baker. He won star baker three or four times and was first or second for several individual events. Everyone recognized him as the best baker (hosts, other bakers, viewers), yet inexplicably, he wasn't in the finals, but somehow a guy who had only been baking six months was. I assert that if the best baker doesn't make it into the finals, there is something wrong with the judging system. Additionally, if someone who has been baking only six months can make it into the finals, perhaps baking doesn't require the skill we have been led to believe that it does.
Or perhaps they bounced Jergen because he was a white male northern European and they just couldn't have someone like that in the finals.
